Mutek / The Future Imaginary with Nomad

This year the Skins team held a workshop at MUTEK Forum, presenting “ The Future Imaginary with Nomad Sculpt”. The workshop started off with a discussion of the Future Imaginary, diving into its history and how we can use the concept today to inspire the future. As a group, we had a thoughtful conversation about our visions of the future and how these ideas can be illustrated through character design. During our discussions participants started brainstorming character designs on paper to explore their ideas. This brainstorming is an important part of the creative process as it encourages iteration and collaboration before moving to the more difficult task of 3D sculpting.
The second half of our workshop was dedicated to teaching the basics of Nomad Sculpt, a versatile iPad application for 3D modelling. The participants started with a premade body base to help them focus on customization and bringing their character design to life. As a group we went through each step of the process, learning the basics 3D modelling while slowly building their characters. In the end, the participants not only showed strong interest in 3D modelling but also created imaginative characters that reflected their cultures and visions of the future.
