7th Gen Character Design

Workshop Type: 7th Gen

Location: Kuujjuarapik, QC

Dates: 2025-06-23 to 2025-06-27

Duration: 3 sessions, a total of 3 hours

As part of our collaboration with ESUMA, we visited four villages in total, with Kuujjuarapik being the next stop in our workshop series! While we had some flight delays due to crosswinds in Akulivik, we adjusted our five-day curriculum to fit into the four days we were in town.

Continuing with 7th Gen Character Design++, we introduced some map making workshops where participants created clay figurines and decoration onto a map as part of learning level design and how environments are integral to storytelling within video games. Again, on the last couple of days of our week, we introduced our iPads to the students to learn how to draw on Procreate.

During this week, we had some extracurricular activities, as many community events were happening in Kuujjuarapik! Former NHL player Jordin Tootoo visited town, so we took a break from the iPads to bring the participants to a meet and greet. The next day we also brought them over to the community lunch happening by the Inukshuk, where in-between games of tag and frisbee, they learned how to work a DSLR camera. With these photos, we transferred them into Procreate so the kids could learn how to play around with mixed media, blending photography and digital drawing together.
