Moore College / AbTeC & The Future Imaginary
At the end of October, we were invited to present about AbTeC and the Future Imaginary virtually to a class over at Moore College (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania). The class, Oceanic Arts and Culture: Continuity, Innovation, and Resistance, focuses on Pacifica Futurisms, so we tailored our lecture to feature more Polynesian artists.
In the presentation, we spoke about what AbTeC is, its beginnings in 2008 here at Concordia University and what we’ve been up to recently at the lab. In addition, we highlighted the recent exhibition, Resist with Love: The Xtopias of Solomon Enos that recently wrapped up at Daphne Art Centre here in Montreal. You can still see Enos’ digital works in cyberspace, over at AbTeC Gallery.
To close off the presentation, Van gave a mini artist talk on how they are approaching futurisms through their work in video game development and wampum weaving. We stayed around for some questions from students, who were keen on knowing more about how we approach our research and what is involved in engaging with technologies ethically.
