7th Gen Character Design
Wrapping up the end of this year, we worked alongside the Kahnawake Education Center to bring the Skins Workshops to Kateri – one of the local elementary schools in Kahnawake!
We collaborated with the Grade 6A and 6B class to deliver our 7th Gen Character Design+ workshop, where students imagine and create a descendant seven generations in the future. First on paper, we then switch over to our iPads, where we show the students how to create digital drawings using Procreate.
It was our first time working with a younger age group. At first, we were nervous, but everyone was excited to take on the challenge the moment we arrived. Both groups were eager to learn how to use the iPad for drawing, and quickly created a range of characters, from revenant ghosts to robots to futuristic socialites! Students did not hold back from asking questions about Procreate, or how to accomplish techniques like smudging and blending.
On the last day, KEC TV visited the class to record and interview the class about their experience. While it took some heart to peel away these devices from their hands (they wanted to do even more!), we’re more than excited to work with Kateri again in the new year for a new round of workshops.
That being said, this is our last blog before the New Year! See you in 2025! Chii-Miigwech to all our partners, and to Kateri, for having us.
