workshops on aboriginal storytelling in digital media

We designed a workshop that taught young people how to use virtual environments in order to film and create a movie.

In this workshop, youth learned the basics of machinima, a new media practice that uses virtual environments to create actors and sets; software cameras to film the action; and standard digital video editing tools to edit the results into a narrative. Using the shared online 3D space Second Life, youth learned how to customize avatars, build objects and structures, record action and edit a movie. The outcome was a 1-minute movie for each team.
